Meet Our Provider

Shashi D. Ganti, MD, FASRS

Surgeon Director, Cal Retina MD Ophthalmic Consultants

Clinical research has been a passion throughout my training and career. In Ophthalmology, it began under the mentor-ship of Professor Gholam Peyman, a prominent scientist and US Congressional Gold medalist, at University of Illinois, Chicago. Our work in developing the continuous wave YAG laser for Retinal photocoagulation paved the way for present day lasers that are a cornerstone of therapy for Diabetic Retinopathy.

My interest in public health grew during the height of the AIDS epidemic, when with Prof. Juan Orellana at Mount Sinai Medical Center, New York, we became one of the first investigators to begin treating patients with direct intravitreal pharmaceutical agents for AIDS related CMV retinitis.

I had the pleasure of serving in a health care shortage area in Porterville, located in Central California, where I was the sole Retina Specialist and Surgeon for more than a decade and had the opportunity to make a difference in a large cohort of Diabetic, Cataract and Neovascular Glaucoma patients. I had the distinct honor to contribute to the Diabetic Retinopathy Clinical Research network DRCR.net, as a Principal Investigator for protocols A, AB and W.

Presently, I am affiliated with Mission Valley Eye Medical Center, and established my own independent clinic in 2147 Mowry Ave. Suite D1, Fremont, CA where I hope to serve the community of Fremont, California.
