Medical Missionary Projects providing free eye and vision services

  • Medical voluntary teaching and conference at Rajan Eye Center, Chennai, India in December 2019
  • Medical missionary project in Ensenada, Mexico, volunteering with the SEE International organization in September 2009
  • Monthly Free Vision Services in the central California region through Tzu Chi Foundation, Fresno Division, CA from 2000 to 2009.
  • Medical missionary project in El Salvador in September 2004.
  • Medical missionary project in India with Sankar Foundation, Visakhapatnam, India during December 2000, 2002, and 2003.
  • Medical information exchange project with China-Japan Friendship Hospital, Beijing, China during October 1992.
  • Medical missionary project with Kenya Medical School Hospital, Nairobi, East Africa, Kenya during January 1987.

Meet the Team

Shashi Ganti, MD

Dr. Ganti is an American board-certified, fellowship-trained Retina and Cornea specialist. He graduated with honors from Andhra Medical College of Andhra University, Waltair, India. He did his Residency in Internal Medicine from the State University of New York at Stony Brook University Hospital, New York, and did his Ophthalmology Residency at John H. Stroger Jr., Cook County Health and Hospital System, Chicago, Illinois. Subsequently, he did his Fellowship training in Retina and Vitreous Surgery with Orellana Retina Associates/Mount Sinai Medical Center, New York.

Dr. Ganti was a co-investigator for FDA studies on the use of silicon oil in complex retinal detachment surgery. He worked as a research fellow at the University of Illinois Eye and Ear Infirmary with Prof. Gholam Peyman and conducted research on the application of continuous wave YAG laser for retinal photocoagulation.

Prior to the Retina Fellowship, Dr. Ganti did his Fellowship training in Cornea and External Disease at the University of Rochester School of Medicine, Rochester, NY with Prof. James V. Aquavella. Subsequently, he has served as a Clinical Assistant Professor at the Jewish Hospital and Medical Center, Brooklyn, NY, Attending Sub-Specialist at the Catholic Medical Center, Cornell University, New York, NY and Attending Surgeon Doheny Eye Institute at the University of Southern California, Los Angeles, CA.

He has published articles in peer-reviewed medical journals pertaining to corneal and retinal disease and surgery.

His other interests include participating in international medical missionary projects in Mexico, El Salvador, China, Taiwan, Africa, and India.

He is married with two children and enjoys his free time with his family and friends.
